Iron has a defect: it is poorly absorbed by the intestine. Only 15 to 35% of iron contained in meat and 10% of iron in plants are absorbed (1,5). The rate of blood ferritin decreases and the symptoms appear: lower physical and intellectual performance, shortness of breath, persistent fatigue…

To correct this deficiency, high daily doses of iron in the form of drugs are prescribed with sometimes disappointing results and the appearance of troublesome side effects: stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea.
